The Opposite of Cheap-and-Wide — How Poppy AI Bootstrapped to a $500K Month in 11 Months on $300–800/Year Pricing
A visual ‘AI workspace’ for creators built by Rafeh Qazi and Naz Dumanskyy: drop your own YouTube videos, PDFs and voice notes onto an infinite canvas and AI generates scripts, posts and ads in your voice. Bootstrapped, on $300–800/year pricing, it hit its first $500K month and ~5,000 creators in about 11 months.

Audience First, Product Second — How a 4.5M-Follower Creator Used AI (Without Writing a Line of Code) to Take Manifesting App Stella to ~$300K MRR in About Two Months
Immigrant creator Sarah Perl (@hothighpriestess) built Stella with AI (Claude Code / Cursor) despite not being able to code, on top of the 4.5M-follower manifesting audience she’d spent years building. It hit ~$275K–$300K MRR and 12,000 paying subscribers in about two months — a textbook ‘distribution-first’ case.

Don’t Build It, Buy It for $1 — How Marketer Ricardo Acquired a Stalled AI Headshot App (BetterPic) and Grew It to ~$270K/mo in 18 Months via SEO & Affiliates
In the crowded AI-headshot market, Ricardo Ghekiere chose to *buy* rather than build. He acquired BetterPic — a $1.5K/mo app listed on SideProjectors — for effectively $1 (plus equity and a $200K investment commitment), keeping its original builder on as CTO. Instead of TikTok, he grew it with programmatic SEO and affiliates to ~$270K/mo and $3M annual revenue in 18 months, then raised $2.5M.

Sprout, the “Tinder for jobs” built by a non-engineer in college — betting on distribution over building to reach $250K MRR in 8 months
A job-search app built by Nicole Cheung while at Claremont McKenna: swipe to apply, AI tailors a resume and cover letter per role, and an agent auto-submits on the employer’s site. With no ads and no VC it hit $250K MRR in 8 months — reusing the same creator-army playbook behind her earlier beauty app Glam Up (1M users in 6 months).

Validated With a Fake Demo Before Writing Code — How Pushscroll’s ‘Do Push-ups to Unlock Social Media’ App Hit $30K/Month and 300K Downloads in 4 Months
A ‘replace doomscrolling with fitness’ app by Mario Ortiz Manero and Alejandro Sanchez: before you can open social media you must do a short workout (one push-up = one minute). The pair validated demand by posting a fake demo of an app that didn’t exist yet, then built it — reaching $30K/month and ~300K downloads in about four months on organic short-form alone.

HabitKit, by German solo dev Sebastian Röhl, visualizes habit streaks with a GitHub-contribution-style grid. In a fully saturated market — no paid ads, no TikTok, just building in public and App Store Optimization — it grew to ~$28K MRR with monthly revenue stabilizing above $40K across the year (~$602K in 2025).

A browser-controlled countdown timer for live events, hacked together over a weekend by German indie developer Lukas Hermann. Built in 3 Days by a Non-Technical, Non-Native Mexican Founder — How Prayer Lock (“Pray to Unlock Your Apps”) Hit $20K/Month in 6 Months on Pure UGC Volume
A screen-time blocker built solo by Mauricio Baron: a faith-focused app that locks your other apps until you finish a prayer. A non-technical, non-native-English founder, he vibe-coded it in ~3 days. With no big following and no ad budget, he mass-produced ~40 pieces of UGC a day across 11–12 accounts and reached ~$20K/month in six months (its App Store listing now holds 4.9★ across ~35K ratings).

Umberto Mezzadra spent five years building a community of yoga teachers and practitioners with hand-illustrated physical decks (PlayPauseBe), then used that trust to pre-sell his yoga app Floga *before* building it. In May 2025 a lifetime deal did $120K+ in 24 hours entirely outside the app stores, keeping every dollar. Today it runs at ~4,000 users and ~$10K/month.
